“I Have A Dream” Program

“I Have a Dream” Program

Bayview Foundation’s first program started in 1999 when we partnered with the “I Have a Dream” Program. The Foundation sponsored a class of students at Charles R. Drew Elementary School starting when they were in the 1st grade in 1999 through to their graduation in 2010. Since then, the Foundation added 4 more classes of Dream students at 3 additional schools.

Bayview Foundation’s “I Have a Dream” Program’s support footprint has extended to students in 4 elementary schools (Charles R. Drew, Frederick Douglass, Phillis Wheatley, and Holmes Elementary Schools) and 15 area middle schools. Bayview Foundation’s support follows the students through their education path to high school where Foundation volunteers help prepare them for admission exams and take them on college tours. The Foundation also provides scholarships for the students who pursue post-secondary education.

To date, Bayview Foundation supported the education journeys of more than 300 students through the “I Have a Dream” Program. The first Bayview Foundation Dream students graduated in 2010 with an on-time graduation rate of 93% and an overall graduation rate of 97%, where their anticipated graduation rate was less than 25%. Many pursued post-secondary education opportunities. Bayview Foundation has spent more than one million dollars in college scholarships.
